The world is a beautiful place but in the broader picture, there are countless other worlds existing inside this complex, infinite, three dimensional(Length, Width, Height) realm of existence(Time, Space, Matter), called universe, but can these worlds with all of its complexities or the creation of the universe as a whole be possible without a creator? and can its existence be better explained through evolution or through an intelligent designer?. Let’s find out.

Creation of the Universe

Two theories are in the present viable for the explanation of the creation of the universe.

1. Creation Of Universe in accordance with The Theory of Evolution

There are six types of evolution in order to explain the creation of the universe without any divine intervention and an intelligent designer involved.

  • Cosmic Evolution: The Origin of time, space, matter, and the beginning of the world through Big Bang.
  • Chemical Evolution: The Origin of higher elements and their formation from a single element, Hydrogen.
  • Stellar Evolution: The Origin and creation of stars and other planets through billions of years.
  • Organic Evolution: The Origin of Life and all the living things.
  • Macro-Evolution: Changing from one kind of plant or animal into another kind and species.
  • Micro-Evolution: Variation within Kinds.

I will dive deep into these four types of Evolution( Cosmic, Organic, Macro, and Micro) and for the remaining two I will refer you to another source at the end of this article.

Beginning of the Creation of the Universe

Through the Cosmic Evolution, the universe expanded from energy and heat condensed dot-like point, more appropriately hot gaseous composition. After their accumulation and explosion from a point, the galaxies were born.

According to our current understanding, the galaxies get born the same way when vast clouds of dust and gas collapse under their own gravitational pull, allowing stars to form. Likewise, a star and its planets form out of a collapsing cloud of dust and gas within a larger cloud called a nebula, better pointed as smoke or Ad-Dukhan in Quran some 1400 years ago.

Surah Fussilat 41 9 12 Towards Understanding the Quran Quran Translation Commentary Tafheem ul Quran Google Chrome 8 23 2020 9 50 30 AM min
Surah Fussilat 41, Verse 11

Modern cosmology says that too about the era in the Big Bang model when the universe was filled by the highly dense and hot gaseous composition called nebula which is its science terminology and Dokhan according to Quran which is a more accurate terminology than nebula.

So it would be fair to say that the heavens and earth or the creation of the universe as a whole get formed by the command of God.

But Modern Sciences rejects the existence of God and His Divine intervention in the creation of the Universe. -Stating that Creation of Universe begun after an explosion called Big Bang, and from that explosion which occurred by itself, the world started. Sheerly indicating that it all started by pure coincidence and chance and not by the will of God. But the Quran says otherwise.

Holy Quran addresses some certain but important aspects of Big bang theory in other different verses of the Holy Quran too. These scattered verses render information on the successive events that take part in the formation and creation of the universe we see in the present time. Therefore, to get a clear idea, the fragments of these scattered verses have to be brought together in a manner that will present successive events regarding the origin of the cosmos.

Creation of the Universe In accordance with Quran

Surah Al Anbya 21 30 40 Al Quran al Kareem القرآن الكريم Google Chrome 8 23 2020 8 20 58 AM min
Surah Al-Anbya, Ayyah 30

About the beginning, Quran mentions in Verse 30 of Chapter 21(Al-Anbya):
“Have those who disbelieved not considered that the heavens and the earth were a joined entity, then We have opened them, and made from water every living thing? Then will they not believe?” (The Prophets: 30)

Inside the verse, the Arabic words ratq and fataq are used. The word ratq can be translated into “entity”, “attached to”, “joined together” or “closed up”. The verb fataq is translated into “We unstitched” “We clove them asunder”, “We separated” or “We have opened them”.

This Verse moreover emphasizes the fact that the earth and heaven were a joint entity, a condensed zone of gases mentioned as nebula or smoke, and from that point he, the almighty separated the joint entity and from that point, the universe expanded.

And even, maybe the word Universe, Uni-one and Verse-Single spoken Sentence, itself implies that the creation of the universe was commanded out of a single verse. –Surah Fussilat 41, Verse 11.

Now, let’s move onto the next types of evolutions, mainly biological evolution(Organic, Micro, and Macro Evolution).

Beginning of Life on Earth according to theory of evolution

If you search for the theory of evolution, it is actually the theory of evolution by natural selection that will show up. The theory was proposed in 1859 by Charles Darwin, a British Naturalist who tried to explain the origin of life through Micro and Macro Evolution of single-cell into all forms of life we see today and all of that he wanted to answer was with this concept (Natural Selection), So we have to find what is Natural Selection.

Natural Selection:

The process by which random evolutionary changes are selected for us by nature in order for the best adaptation to life.

for understanding the Natural selection process, first, you have to learn about two other concepts in the theory of evolution. 1. Descent with modification. 2. Common Descent. Watch the video for better illustration.

Descent with Modification:

Descent with modification is an observable fact that when parents have children, those children often look and behave slightly different than their parents, and slightly different than each other. They descend from their parents with modifications. The differences found in offspring are due to their unique genes and the genetic characteristics of their own.

Common Descent:

Common Descent is a concept that all the living things on earth descended from a common ancestor(a single cell) through the descent with modification and natural selection process. It means through millions of years of modification and adaptation through the Natural selection process one living thing evolved and changed from one species to another and gave birth to all the species we see today.

Using this Natural Selection concept, Charles Darwin pointed to how complex life arose from simple life and explained that how the origin of life through a single cell organism started and evolved and changed over time through the concept of natural selection and spread or replicated into different species we see today in the world, including us humans.

Although the ancient scientist and philosophers rejected it because of one main reason; you can not get order and complexity from random chaos alone and despite that, there are other complexities to the issues of evolution like, how did an animal of a particular kind or species change to another species or kind, or how did a species produce something different from its kind although we haven’t witnessed something change to something else or produce something other than its form or species, and more essentially the biggest question posed by Islam to the Darwinian theory is that how can Darwinism explain a spiritual entity like a human who is equipped with commodities like love, the innate judgment of right and wrong, sense of justice and mercy, concept of morality or how a mother’s sense of love and utmost affection and connectedness with his child, could be able to explain using the theory of evolution? how would the Darwinian theory although somehow let’s suppose could be able to prove or explain the physical phase of the creation and existence of human beings, would explain the spiritual phase of human beings? How would Darwinism in a world without creator be able to explain those? how would Darwinism if possibly able to explain, would explain the spiritual phase of existence without a link to the creator?.

Quran has something to say again on that regard too,

creation of universe
Surah Al-Hijr 15, Verse 29

The Word رُّوۡح in Quran means Soul or Spirit. In the verse above God after making and shaping humans asked the Angles to prostrate before him because The Almighty himself has breathed his spirit in our body and that explains what no other theory could explain the greatness of the human kinds and other commodities such as love, mercy, spirituality, and many other unobservable things that for science and theory of evolution is still unsolved.

To Conclude; It is correct that humans evolved through generations of offsprings that come with slightly different genes they inherited from their parents, but surely they didn’t come from a reptile or a bird or apes or monkeys because of the similarity they have gene-wise.

Secondly, Humans are descendants of Adam and Eve which are made and breathed life and spirit into by God Almighty. We are not remnants of animals nor animals were our ancestors and we, their descendants, God made us and clearly stated in different verses of different surah of the Holy Quran multiple times.

We created the human being from
a quintessence of clay”.
(23- The Believers, 12)

”Who made all things He created excellent,
and He started the creation of the human being from clay”.
(32-The Prostration, 7)

”Among His signs is that He created you from dust”…
(30-The Romans, 20)

”And it is He who created from water a human being, then has He established relationship of lineage and marriage. Your Lord is Omnipotent”.
(25-The Distinguisher, 54)

According to the Quran, God has claimed in various verses that he created man from dust and water. Sometimes the Quran stresses these elements separately and sometimes in combination as clay. There has been a myriad number of speculations about man’s creation out of clay (the combination made of dust and water). After the developments in biology and chemistry, analytical studies of clay an element found from the earth’s crust since the beginning of the formation of the earth shows that the constituents of clay and those of the human body fit exactly. Let us name these constituents: iron, calcium, oxygen, sodium, potassium, magnesium, hydrogen, chlorine, iodine, manganese, lead, carbon, zinc, sulfur, and nitrogen. This matchup can be as a result of the stardust and the asteroids containing those substances hit the earth and made life possible on it.

And when God separately mentions water that man was created out of the water, then that is sperm or from the womb of a mother that is full of fluid, or maybe He, the Almighty is referring to the fact that 70 percentile of all our body is made up of water and around 46% water is present inside our cells. So that may be the reason the Quran indicates that man was made of water.

Conclusion:

The theory of evolution is viable only if there is an intellient designer behind it that commanded the world and the galaxies its structure, organization, and fromation that we witness today. Until then, it is impossible for the world or let alone our planet to perform with such precision and detailed and organized workflow if there was no divine intervention involved. Thank You
