President Recep Tayyip Erdogan often termed as an autocratic ruler by the western media was actually the one reforming Turkey, its Power Structure, and the one holding a vision of the new Ottoman empire, Find out How?
Erdogan’s Journey to Power
With roots in Rize, Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was born in Istanbul on February 26, 1954. He got his basic academic from Kasımpaşa Piyale Primary School in 1965 and graduated from Imam Hatip School, (a Religious Vocational High School) in 1973. Having succeeded in the necessary examinations for additional courses, Mr. Tayyip Erdoğan received a diploma from Eyüp High School as well. He completed his educational career and earned a graduation diploma in the Field of Economics and Administrative Sciences from Marmara University in 1981.
Since his early teen life, Mr. Erdoğan has chosen to lead a social life intertwining with politics. From 1969 to 1982, he was also actively participating in hobbies like playing football which he was deeply fascinated with because it taught him the significance of teamwork and the spirit of the young. These years in which he spent time actively indulged in all sorts of activities involving social and welfare works and engagement in communal meetings and gatherings, has made him to eventually step into active politics and turned him into an idealistic young man interested in solving social and national problems with his best commodity, Islam.
Assuming active responsibilities at the students’ branch of the National Turkish Students’ Association during his high school and university career, Mr. Erdoğan was elected the Head of the MSP Beyoğlu Youth Branch in 1976 and he was elected the Head of the MSP İstanbul Youth Branch in the same year. Holding this position until 1980, he served as a consultant and senior executive in the private sector during the September 12 coup when the political parties were closed down.
Mr. Erdoğan returned to political activities with the Welfare Party, led and founded by his university mentor in 1983 who went on to become the first Islamist Prime Minister of Turkey amid the Secular and the atheist regime of Mustafa Kamal Ata Turk. Mr. Erdogan was elected the Beyoğlu District Head of the Welfare Party in 1984. In 1985, he was elected the İstanbul Provincial Head of the Welfare Party and in the same year, he also became a member of the Central Executive Board of the Welfare Party. During his term as Istanbul Provincial Head, he developed a new organizational structure which served as a model for other political parties, Recep Tayyip Erdogan carried out projects that aimed at urging the participation of women and youth in politics, thus taking important steps toward helping politics to be welcomed as a step towards solving problems among the masses. This project won the Welfare Party a great success during the mayoral elections in Beyoğlu in 1989, serving as a good example for others in terms of studies at the party across Turkey.
In local elections, on March 27, 1994, Mr. Erdoğan was elected Mayor of Metropolitan İstanbul. During his tenure as Mayor, he produced correct diagnoses and solutions to the chronic problems of İstanbul, one of the world’s most important metropolitan cities through his political abilities, the importance he attached to teamwork and successful management in human resources and financial issues. The water problem was overcome by laying hundreds of kilometers of new pipeline, the garbage problem was solved through the establishment of the most modern recycling facilities and the problem of air pollution ended with the natural gas projects developed during Erdoğan’s term in office. As for traffic congestion and transportation deadlock, more than 50 bridges, passageways, and freeways were constructed and many more projects which would guide the other administrations in the city were developed. Taking very useful precautions for the correct exertion of the municipal resources and to prevent corruption, Mr. Erdoğan paid most of the debts of the İstanbul Municipality which he took over with its 2 billion dollars debt, and he during his time in office achieved investments worth 4 billion dollars. Mr. Erdoğan, thus, accomplished a breakthrough in the municipal history by repaying the debt with 2 billion liras surplus and meanwhile served as good examples for other mayors. He won the confidence of the people.
On December 12, 1997, while addressing the public in Siirt, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan read a poem from a book, which was recommended by the National Education Ministry and published by a state agency, and after that, he was sentenced to imprisonment for reading that poem. Thus, his term as mayor was ended.
“The minarets are our bayonets the domes our helmets the mosques our barracks and the faithful our soldiers.”
“One thing that I can not digest, if the skies and the ground were to open against us. If floods and volcanoes were
to burst upon us, we are those who are proud with the Iman of our ancestors, they never kneeled down
to frightening things any day, deeds of glory, deed of Anatolia, from Malazgirt til Canakkale, faith
impenetrable to fortresses, our ancestors rushing from one victory to another, this is unity and togetherness.”
Mr. Erdoğan, after serving 4 months in prison, established the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) on August 14, 2001, with his companions as a result of the insistent demand from the public and the developing democratic process and he was elected as the Founding General Chair of the AK Party by the Council of Founders. The favor of the nation made the AK Party a political movement that enjoyed the broadest and largets public support in the country in the very first year of its establishment and made it the sole ruling party with a two-thirds majority at the end of the parliamentary elections held in 2002.
Mr. Erdoğan was not a candidate for MP during the elections on November 3, 2002, due to the court’s decision against him at the time. So, he joined the deputy renewal election held on March 9, 2003, in Siirt when the legal obstacle was lifted after the necessary legal regulations had been made. Allocating 85 % of the votes cast in that election, he became a deputy from Siirt for the 22nd term.
With his ideal of a brighter and constantly growing Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan implemented a number of reforms of crucial importance in the shortest time. The country made great progress in democratization, transparency, and the prevention of corruption. The economy was refurbished, the exports grew, and the Turkish Lira gained its lost credit. During the time he was Prime Minister of Turkey, an unprecedented number of dams, residential units, schools, roads, hospitals, and power plants were constructed. All these affirmative developments were described by many foreign observers and Western leaders as a “Silent Revolution”.
Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in addition to his fruitful initiatives, described it its bid to join the EU, as a turning point in history, but his bid was rejected, though he has taken significant steps toward the resolution of the Cyprus problem and toward the development of efficient relations with many countries through his rational foreign policy and intense series of visits and contacts. The environment of stability established in the country, while changing the internal and foreign dynamics of policies along with diplomacy and making diplomatic ties with the Arab World and other Middle Eastern countries has made Turkey a pivotal country. Turkey’s volume of trade and political power have remarkably increased not only in its region but also in the international area.
Recep Tayyip Erdoğan is also the first President of the Republic of Turkey elected on July 9, 2018, by popular vote after a referendum on changing the constitution by giving the president the execution right as opposed to the previous constitutional rights which had appointed the presidency as symbolic. The new Turkey switched from the Premier led system government to the presidential system of government to avoid its past history of Coups to repeat.
After Mustafa Kamal, the father of Secular Turkey installed his regime and built Turkey from the Ashes of the Ottoman Empire in non-alignment with its previous Islamic theme, he leftover the military to protect and preserve it. The Military attempted several coups and successful topling or romval of the civil government,
The first coup attempt was done in 1960 after a Government ruling to loosen some of the Ataturk-era rules dealing with religion. The ruling was to reopen mosques, legalize the call to prayer in Arabic instead of Turkish, and to open new schools for religious personnel, among others. It also shortened the period of mandatory military service for young.
After the Menderes government was toppled, Prime Minister Adnan Menderes was executed and president Celal Bayar and the cabinet of Menderes was tried for treason.
1971 Memorandum Coup
Again after 11 years, another coup was attempted but through a memorandum. The Military Chief of the General Staff, Memduh Tağmaç, handed the Prime Minister, Suleyman Demirel a memorandum demanding to form his government in the context of democracy, and if not the army would exercise their constitutional duty of dissolving the country. Suleyman Demirel was also accused of not ruling according to the principles of Modern Turkey’s father, Ataturk, and hence 3 hours after the memorandum he resigned.
1997 Second Memorandum Coup
The 1995 election sheer fruits for the Islamist Welfare Party. Their coalition by majority votes took power the following year as the head of a coalition government.
In 1997 the Turkish armed forces issued another memorandum, enforcing the government to comply with a set of recommendations or withdraw. The government had no choice but to accept. The first Islamist Prime Minister Necmettin Erbakan agreed to the recommendations to ban wearing headscarves at universities and implementing an eight-year compulsory education Program to prevent pupils from enrolling in religious schools.
Nevertheless, Necmettin Erbakan was removed as Prime Minister, banned from politics for five years, and his party, The Welfare party was also shut down in 1998.
Some former members of the party, including the former Prime Minister and current President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, would eventually go on to find the Justice and Development Party(AK Party), change the constitution of Turkey after the Final Coup attempt in the history of Turkey, and Limit the Power of the Armed Forces after a referendum.
Final Failed Coup attempt 2016
On July 15th, Turkey confronted its last Coup attempt under the rule of another Muslim leader, Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The coup was headed by FETO(Fetullah Gulen Terrorist Organization). A section of the army under the FETO group’s influence led the bloody coup to topple Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s Government. TRT World, Turkey’s own biggest broadcasting news channel reported,” The Feto group led by Fetullah Gulen was a movement with international ties with states like US”, where currently Fetullah Gulen lives despite extradition requests from the Turkish Government.
On the night of the July 15, Tanks patrolled Istanbul, F-16 Fighter Jets bombed the Presidential Complex, the special forces and police headquarters, and the grand national assembly of Turkey where the governments were gathered, Helicopters opened fire at the hotel where President Erdogan was staying at that night, The Bosphorous Bridge was blocked by the Armed Forces, the Akinci airbase along with Ataturk airport were seized the Airports, TRT World headquarter was also shut down.

But in recent times, Turkey decided to establish a safe zone along its border for the Syrian refugees displaced around the world to settle there. So it had to take the matter in its own hands after the US failed to provide a safe zone for Syrians or more importantly wipe out the Daesh and other terrorist groups.
Through operation Euphrates shield, Olive Branch, and Peace Spring Turkey successfully established a safe zone but Turkey’s operation in Syria met with opposition and sanctions by US for its military operations in Syria and its interference in another country’s internal matters. Now with the safe zone established Turkey, wants to resettle 3 million refugees in the safe zone and built houses, schools, hospitals, and universities there.

”Turkey is the 19th largest economy in the world with its 771.4 billion economy. President of turkey Tayyip Erdogan says that Turkey will enter a new Ottoman Empire era after 2023. experts say after 2023 turkey will be included in the top 10 countries of the world but the question arises how will that be possible?, what is going to happen in turkey in 2023?
The Ottoman Empire ruled much of southeastern Europe, western Asia, and northern Africa for over 600 years the empire collapsed in world war 1. A new leader Mustafa Kamal emerged who led the Turkish national movement which resisted the partition of mainland turkey kamal established a provincial government in Ankara he defeated the forces sent by allies the war between the allies and the Turkish national movement continued until 1923 when a treaty was signed between the allies and Mustafa kamal in Lausanne, Switzerland. This treaty is known as the treaty of Lausanne.
Treaty of Lausanne
The treaty of Lausanne signed between the allies and Mustafa kamal in Lausanne, Switzerland defined the border of modern-day turkey. Turkey gave up all claims to the remainder of the Ottoman Empire and in return, the allies recognized Turkish sovereignty within its new borders, the caliphate system was put to an end, the last caliph was sent on exile with his family and assets that belonged to caliph or his family was confiscated. Islam was banned and Turkey was made a secular state. According to the treaty, Turkey will not be allowed to drill and explore oil of its own it has to import oil from other countries. The natural strait bosporus is an internationally significant waterway located in northwestern turkey it acts as a natural boundary between Europe and Asia and controls world trade in the treaty of Lausanne. It was declared international which simply means turkey cannot impose taxes on the ships that pass through this waterway. According to international law, the treaty of Lausanne will expire in 2023. As the law states that no treaty can be implemented for more than 100 years. 2023 would be revolutionary for Turkey, as president Erdogan himself says that turkey will enter a new Ottoman Empire Era after 2023.
Turkey 2023 | The New Ottoman Empire Era
Oil has become the world’s most important source of energy since the industrial revolution. Its products underpin modern society mainly supplying energy to the power industry, heat homes and provide fuel for vehicles and airplanes, the economy of many middle eastern countries like Saudi Arabia and Iran solely depend on oil export, unfortunately, Turkey cannot drill its own oil because it is forbidden in the treaty of Lausanne, therefore, it had to import oil from other countries which cost a lot. After 2023 the restriction on turkey will be lifted Turkey will explore and drill its own oil which will reduce its reliance on other countries. If turkey finds enough reserves it can export oil. Revenue obtained from oil export will boost its GDP. Bosphorus strait controls trade around the world hundreds of ships pass through the strait daily. This strait was declared international so Turkey could not impose taxes on the ships. After 2023 turkey will be able to impose taxes on ships that cross Bosphorus strait. Turkey is planning a project to link the black sea to Marmora sea, the purpose of which is to ease the flow of traffic in the Bosphorus strait. After 2023 Turkey can claim its territory over Saudi Arabia, Libya, Egypt, Sudan, Iraq, Cyprus, and the Levant. Turkey can also claim its right to the holy cities, Makkah and Madina. After world war one Mustafa kamal pasha put Islam aside he banned scarf and declared Turkey a secular state 95 of the population of Turkey follow the religion of Islam, Tayyip Erdogan wants to revert the status of turkey to Islam. Erdogan wants to lead the Muslim world and increase his influence on the middle east for that he took many steps like the conversion of Hagia Sophia to the mosque.
If the turkey gets the custodianship of Makkah and Medina, the dream of Tayyip Erdogan to lead the Muslim world can come true, but for Turkey, it won’t be an easy task to take the custodianship of Makkah and Madina from Saudi Arab. Turkey is carrying out proxy wars in the middle east turkey’s military operation in Syria indicates the restoration of land formerly belonging to Turkey. If turkey succeeded in taking its land back it could revive the Ottoman Empire. Erdogan announced Turkey will shape the future of the entire region when it reaches its goal in 2023.
Do you think turkey will make a real difference on the global map after 2023? Will turkey emerge as a global power after the demise of the treat of Lausanne?. Express your opinion in the comment section.”
Mr. Erdoğan included in his presidential portfolio 2018 that he will make Turkey the top 10 largest economy in the world till 2023. Inside his presidential portfolio, he has mega projects that are scheduled to complete until 2023. These projects are the constructions of a new Istanbul Airport capable of 25 million passengers transport annually, a 45-meter canal parallel to Bosphorus strait to reduce sea traffic in Bosphorus strait, a 10 thousand kilometers rail network to connect all the points of Turkey, a financial center in Istanbul like the New York Wall Street, and the construction of a gas pipeline stretching from the one end of Turkey to the other end which will make Turkey the natural energy hub for European countries.
